As you probably know if you're reading this, I am traveling to Japan to study abroad for a semester. I can't even count the number of people who want to keep in touch, to hear all about the journey. So! I've made this blog to tell of my adventure! Please comment back, as communication is a two-way street, is it not? Happy readings!
There's a saying in Japan that translates roughly to "the stake that sticks up will be hammered down", but over the years it was mistranslated to "nail". It means, that to work together as a whole, everyone must be the same. Westerners have seized upon this as a summary of Japanese lifestyle, so I get it quoted at me a lot when I tell people that's where I'm going. Also, there is an extremely low amount of foreigners in Japan. Any non-Japanese person (such as myself) there is very conspicuous indeed. And finally, I tend to stick out a bit no matter what I do. Just part of my lovely nature, I guess! ;P
After three cups of coffee, five minor distractions, one almost-meltdown and part of a roll of duct tape, the packing is finally finished! As in, pick-up-my-bags-I'm-walking-out-the-door finished!... Yikes...
P.S. By the way, I now know that if one usually does not drink coffee, it's not a good idea to drink three cups in a row. Especially if one puts sugar in it. Don't try this at home, kids!
lol, that's even worse than me having caffeine at your party.
ReplyDeleteHave a safe flight, lovely! We're all thinking of you! Love you, precious!
